Jimmy Garoppolo was traded to the San Francisco 49ers mid season from the New England Patriots and had one of the best “half seasons” I have ever seen.
He led the abysmal 49ers to a 5-0 record in his 5 starts, throwing for 1560 passing yards and 7 touchdowns. He looked as if he had been playing in the league for 5 years and was all pro. You have to believe some of this success came from learning behind Tom Brady for the first part of his career as a back up.
As soon as the season ended Jimmy signed for a 137 million dollar deal with San Francisco, one of the biggest contracts in the NFL. This deal was well earned from the former Eastern Illinois QB, and hopefully for Niners fans he will live up to his his expectations next season.
I believe Jimmy Garoppolo does in fact have what it takes to be a dynasty type quarterback. With the accuracy of Aaron Rodgers, the confidence of Drew Brees, and the work ethic of Tom Brady, Garoppolo has the X factor it takes to be great. The problems just revolve around the rest of the offense.
As far as the 2018 season goes, my prediction is that he will finish top 3 in passing yards and lead the Niners to 11 wins and a playoff position. However, Outside of the upside in Garoppolo, there isn’t much else going for the boys in red and gold. Building a solid offense around their star Qb should be the main priority of the Niners.
