NFL being just a little over a month away, football’s biggest stage has already been the topic of conversation across the sports world. Will we have a repeat champion/final? Or will we see a new football king crowned? Here are my top 5 preseason favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy.
5.) Los Angeles Rams
The Rams had a surprising surge towards the top of the NFL last year, posting an impressive 11-6 record under first year coach Sean McVay. The Rams also were one of the most active teams in the offseason, adding Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Ndamukong Suh, and Brandin Cooks. Adding these weapons should make their already strong defense even better, and also give Jared Goff another weapon, on top of Sammy Watkins, Cooper Kupp, and Robert Woods. The Rams are a team to be feared, and could be a big hitter in the stacked NFC.
4.) Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings did nothing other than add a better QB in Kirk Cousins, who in my mind could become a top-tier quarterback. Along with the Rams, the Vikings have an outstanding defense. Lead by Everson Griffen and Xavier Rhodes, their defensive playmakers could make the difference between the Vikings and these other top teams. Losing to the Super Bowl Champ Eagles in the NFC title game, Minnesota is back and ready to prove that last season was not a fluke.
3.) New Orleans Saints
The Saints are one of the most exciting teams to watch. Yes, they finally have a defense, formed around their young secondary; DROY Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, and Vonn Bell. But their defense, unlike the Rams and Vikings, isn’t the centerpiece of their success. New Orleans has arguably the most explosive offense in the NFL, lead by their one-two punch at running back, Alvin Kamara (OROY), and Mark Ingram. Brees is also flooded with options at WR, having Michael Thomas, one of the best young wideouts in the league, Ted Ginn, and Kamara and Ingram out of the backfield. The Saints are my preseason favorite to knock off the Eagles for king of the NFC.
2.) New England Patriots
You can never count the Pats out of the mix, and the dynasty is back and ready for redemption. Not too much to say other than Tom Brady revenge tour. Although the Patriots did lose Brandin Cooks, they shouldn’t see too much of a drop in scoring, as they still have Gronk, Edelman, and Mitchell, as well as James White and rookie Sony Michel. The Pats are ready to be the kings of the NFL once again.
1.) Philadelphia Eagles
Last years Super Bowl Champs are looking continue their “underdog” run, and are likely to do so. The Eagles lost no one, and the only addition they made was getting Carson Wentz back from injury. The Eagles might just be the most balanced team in the NFL, with veterans everywhere to develop their youth talent. Wentz being back means that the Eagles will be full boar and geared up for a hopeful and maybe a repeat season.
Next year’s NFL season should be as exciting as usual, and hopefully we’ll have plenty of surprise teams like last season. The Steelers and Jaguars could also make some noise. Will we have a repeat championship?
