Griffin Hill Breaks Down Ohio State vs TCU: Why The Buckeyes Can and Can’t Cover the Spread, Plus Full Game Predictions

By Griffin Hill

Saturday night the Buckeyes will play their week three matchup at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Jerry World has been part of the winning tradition of Ohio State football in recent years, hosting the Buckeyes win against Oregon in the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship game and also their win a season ago against USC in the Cotton Bowl.

This time around Ohio State travels down south to take on the Horned Frogs of TCU in a top 15 matchup that is the College GameDay game of the week. The Bucks and Frogs have clashed helmets four times but the last time they faced off was all the way back in 1973.

Ohio State heads into this game with a perfect start in both aspects: 2-0 on the season and 2-0 against the spread. TCU is also undefeated at 2-0 on the season, but are 1-1 against the spread.

There is no question that TCU will be a tougher test for the Buckeyes, as they head into tonight as 14 point favorites.

Reasons the Buckeyes WILL cover the spread:

Ohio State’s offense has been HOT! Dwayne Haskins has solidified himself as a top five Heisman candidate, the run game deserves an A+ grade thus far, and the the buckeyes have had no trouble covering the spread in either of the first two weeks. So even if you don’t trust that buckeyes defense just yet, the offense should produce enough against an average TCU defense to give Ohio State the boost over a 14 point margin of victory.

Reasons the Buckeyes WON’T cover the spread:

The short answer is pressure. This is the first big time game for many of the young Buckeyes playing tonight. TCU isn’t very experienced either, but will be playing with an underdog mentality.

A top 15 matchup at a neutral location thats virtually a road game is the recipe for an upset, or at the very least a game thats down to the wire. TCU will be throwing everything in their arsenal at the Ohio State defense, and that could result in some high yardage plays late in the game.

Record picking Ohio State in 2018: 2-0

Prediction: Ohio State -14

Buckeyes 41 Horned Frogs 17
