Will the Buckeyes Cover the Spread? Griffin Hill Gives Full Predictions for Ohio State vs Tulane

By Griffin Hill

Good afternoon Buckeye Nation. Last week the Horned Frogs got it close enough to just beat the spread, sending my record on picking the Bucks this season to a somewhat saddening, but still optimistic, 2-1.

Reasons the Buckeyes WILL cover the spread:

Of course the big story this week is Urban Meyer’s return to coaching; now that he has completed his 3 game suspension. While his return is much anticipated, this week Meyer has told the media that Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson will continue to run the offense plays while he takes care of “game management.” This is a GREAT sign if you are going to pick Ohio State to cover the 38 points they are favored by today.

Through three weeks Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson have provided Ohio State fans with an offensive show. Sophomore, Dwayne Haskins, has already thrown for 890 yards on a 72.5% completion percentage. He has accumulated 11 touchdowns an thrown for just 1 interception in his three outings under the Ryan Day, Kevin Wilson offense. These offensive trends should continue against Tulane, leading them to possibly cover the spread.

Reasons the Buckeyes WON’T cover the spread:

Next week will mark the biggest game on Ohio State’s schedule; they hit the road to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn State. I know looking a week ahead usually isn’t advertised among coaches, but its silly to blindly believe the Ohio State players and staff aren’t thinking about that matchup at some capacity.

In the second half look for the Buckeyes to slow down the offense and move to a full running game plan. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players will probably see a significant amount of snaps and here’s the predicament: this could result in some long drives (less points) or possibly just a monster day for the Buckeye half backs resulting in lots of points.

Record picking Ohio State in 2018: 2-1

Prediction: Ohio State -38

Buckeyes 56 Green Wave 10
