3 of the Biggest Fantasy Football Sleepers for 2019

Every year there are always players who over perform and under perform their ADP (average draft position). The goal of every fantasy football manager is to find those players who out perform their ADP, and draft as many of them as possible. Here are a couple of players who I think will out perform their average draft position and finish the season with the title of a “sleeper.” You can check out my youtube video related to this topic HERE!

Kenyan Drake

As of right now, my number one sleeper is the Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake. Last year seemed like a disappointing year for owners who drafted Drake, but Drake still finished as RB14 in full point PPR leagues despite what seemed like a disappointing season. Drake also split carries in the 2018 season with veteran running back Frank Gore, finishing the season with only a 59.2% snap share, so his opportunities were limited. Gore is set to be a free agent this spring and will most likely not be returning for the 2019 season leaving Drake as the workhorse back. Not to mention the Dolphins are upgrading at coach with Brian Flores who should be able to see the ability Drake brings to the team. In current mock drafts for the 2019 season Drake is being drafted as RB28 which blows my mind. Drake still managed to finish as a top 15 back with a snap share and a terrible coach. I am looking for Drake to be able to repeat as a top 15 back with the potential to finish top 10 which would rank him way higher than the ADP he is being drafted at right now.

Golden Tate

After a confusing season, Golden Tate, who will be a free agent this spring, is looking to have a comeback season as his career is nearing an end. With finishes as WR25, WR15, WR18, and WR22 in the last four years there is no doubt that Tate has the ability to produce at a consistent fantasy level, but his ADP is falling due to the doubt with where he is going in the off-season and his age. As of today, in mock drafts, his ADP is at WR59, so he provides an amazing value pick as the 59th receiver coming off the board. I don’t think the team he signs with will effect his fantasy performance at all, so I am extremely content with drafting Golden Tate this late in drafts given he has proven his consistency throughout his whole career.

Vance McDonald

My final sleeper in this first batch for the 2019 season is the Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Vance McDonald. McDonald has never really gotten the chance to be the featured tight end in the Steelers offense, but this year is lining up to be his year. With Jesse James leaving in free agency and Antonio Brown most likely leaving in a trade, there is plenty of targets to be filled and this athletic tight end is looking like the best candidate to fill that gap. Last year McDonald finished as WR11, and he did so with only a 54% snap share. In mock drafts today McDonald is being drafted as the TE18 which blows my mind as he was able to finish as TE11 in a snap share. With so many missing pieces in Pittsburgh and only one featured tight end I am looking for McDonald to be able to finish anywhere from the TE4 to TE8.

  1. Love the concise overview on these picks. You got a rational point across in a reasonably short entry. Too much rambling in sports these days and this is a good example of how to avoid that.

All for the Tate and McDonald ADPs. Still unsure about the Drake one, though. Think Miami will be drafting and RB pretty high this year and that should put a real damper on Drake’s value.
