Indian Wells Wild Cards: The ‘American Dream’ looks strong at the Desert

As the BNP by Paribas Open kicks off another momentous celebration at the desert on March 4-17 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the tournament has already announced this year’s main draw wild cards, highlighted by nine American tennis players.

In a recent report at the BNP by Paribas Open website, a total of nine Americans received the opportunity to play as wild cards in the main draw which will start on Wednesday, March 6.

World number 58 Reilly Opelka, Donald Young, and Jared Donaldson leads the cast of the men’s wild cards which also include last week’s Rio de Janeiro finalists Laslo Djere and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Opelka, who captured his maiden ATP Tour title in New York last week, and Young, a semifinalist at the Oracle Challenger Series in Newport Beach, were awarded wild cards based on their point totals in the Oracle Challenger Series.

Meanwhile, American rising star Amanda Anisimova, who reached a career-high ranking of number 59 this year after reaching the quarterfinals in Melbourne, leads six Americans at the women’s main draw wild card entries.

Last year’s Garbiñe Muguruza’s first round tormentor Sasha Vickery, Jennifer Brady, Taylor Townsend, Madison Brengle, Oracle Challenger Series points leader Jennifer Pegula, and 18-year-old Canadian number one Bianca Andreescu will round up the women’s main draw wild cards.

The main draw action begins on Wednesday, March 6, while the official draw ceremonies will be held on Monday, March 4 at 3:00 pm local time.
