Zion Williamson and the Duke Blue Devils were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Michigan State over the weekend. On Tuesday Williamson was named to the Associated Press All-America team.
This season Williamson averaged 22.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.2 blocked shots, and 1.8 steals. The Duke phenom also had a 69.3 field-goal percentage and was one of the stars of the NCAA tournament. It’s probably a safe bet that Williamson’s college basketball career is over. So where does he go?
The answer could be USA Basketball. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, USA Basketball will see if Williamson is interested in playing in the FIBA World Cup in China this summer. Whether or not Zion plays in the FIBA World Cup or not, he is headed to the NBA draft. He told John Watson of 247 Sports:
There’s obviously a high chance I’m going to enter the draft. I’m not going to make it official or anything right now because I’ve got to talk with my parents about it, but yeah.
Williamson is projected to be the number one pick in this year’s NBA draft, but where will he land? Let’s take a look at the teams that are most likely to land the Duke phenom.
New York Knicks
The Knicks have a 14 percent chance of landing the number one pick. New York has the worst record in the NBA and obviously needs to rebuild. The team is trying to land a superstar free agent this summer.
Adding Williamson will help turn things around for the Knicks. He could help the Knicks offense and defense and help the Knicks win games instead of losing games. The Knicks might not make the playoffs in the first season with Zion, be he can turn them into a team that makes the playoffs every year.
Williamson is a good fit for the Knicks. He could play any position that they need him too. Landing Williamson is what Knicks fans are hoping for because he could bring prominence to the Knicks and help them have winning seasons instead of losing ones.
The Suns also have a 14 percent chance of landing the number one pick in the draft. After the Blue Devils lost to Michigan State, Williamson tweeted that Phoenix is where he wants to be, which makes the Suns his preferred team.
The Suns have Devin Booker who is a star and rookie Deandre Ayton who is having a good season. Adding Williamson could make the Suns instant playoff contenders. Williamson could give the Suns a title so we’ll see if the Suns want the guy that wants to play for them.
The Cavaliers also have a 14 percent chance of getting the number one pick in the draft. Cleveland hasn’t been the same since LeBron James left the second time.
Adding Williamson would help the Cavaliers rebuild and help them move on from LeBron. Williamson would help make the Cavaliers be a better team and could lead them to a title, just like James did.
Where Williamson will probably land?
Out of the three teams that have the best shot at landing Williamson, he will probably go to the Suns. He wants to go to Phoenix and the Suns, just like every other team, probably wants him too, so they will try to get him. If the Suns don’t get him then he’ll probably go to the Cavaliers, but not the Knicks.
