Dwyane Wade retires as an NBA great

Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade played the final home game of his legendary 16-year NBA career on Tuesday. The Heat won the game against the Philadelphia 76ers 122-99 and their playoff hopes died since the Detroit Pistons beat the Memphis Grizzlies.

Wade scored a game-high 30 points in his last home game. Before the game there was a tribute video and Wade spoke to the crowd. After the game Wade told Tim Bontemps of ESPN what his last home game meant to him.

“It’s meant everything,” he said. “To be able to come here and be embraced, to find a home, to be able to grow. I think that’s the one thing. When I was on the court early on and Stan [Van Gundy] let me grow, as a player, to whether it was mistakes I made in life to whatever it was, this city has allowed me to grow. I hope they are proud of what they have helped me become. This city means everything to me. It’s forever, forever, forever going to be my home.”

This season he averaged 14.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. Wade will retire as one of the NBA’s greats and one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. Over his career he averaged 22 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. During his prime form 2005 to 2013, he averaged 25.4 points, 5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. He was a 13-time All-Star, won three NBA titles, a scoring title, and a Finals MVP award.

Wade will leave the NBA as a legend. No he isn’t as good as Michael Jordan or LeBron James. He isn’t better than Kobe Bryant either but he is better than Allan Iverson and Jerry West. Recently Paul Pierce said that he had a better career than Wade. Pierce is a Hall of Famer, was a 10-time All-Star and won an NBA title. THere is no question that Wade had a better career than Pierce.

Wade played the final game of his career on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets. He is one of the best players to ever play in the NBA and he will be missed. Thanks for everything Dwyane and enjoy your retirement.
