Before Duke was beaten by Gonzaga the next night, Auburn made them look like they definitely weren’t unbeatable. Duke won 78-72 but Auburn definitely could have won. If I were an Auburn fan I would have been extremely frustrated. Auburn could have pulled off a memorable upset but didn’t because they didn’t box out, threw dumb alley-oops, and tried to match Duke’s style of play. Nobody has the athleticism to come close to beating Duke at their own game.
Despite these repeated mistakes, the Tigers still looked good. Jared Harper proved that he is among the best point guards in the country. He’s an excellent shooter and passer and finished with 22 points and 6 assists while shooting 6-10 from three-point range. Austin Wiley impressed me off the bench. Coming off a great 2017-2018 season, the Wild had a fairly quiet offseason, except for signing Matt Dumba to a five-year, $30 million extension. They also brought in defenseman Greg Pateryn who will hopefully provide help on the blue line.
The Ducks have had a fairly uneventful offseason; they have let go of some older players (Francois Beauchemin, Kevin Bieksa, Antoine Vermette) to clear cap space. The big resigning of this year was Adam Henrique, who came from New Jersey and got a five-year extension worth more than $5 million per year. In the last five years, he has scored 20 or more goals four times. Anaheim has also picked up Brian Gibbons, Carter Rowney, Luke Schenn, and Andrej Sustr.

What made the Knights a contender in their inaugural season was the NHL trying to build a solid team from the beginning instead of having another situation like the Coyotes. The Coyotes were an expansion team that came into the league and struggled greatly.
